We are pleased to announce that our Chief U.K. Economist, Samuel Tombs, was ranked the most accurate forecaster of the U.K. economy in 2020 by Refinitiv, which compiles predictions every week from all City economists.

This continues Samuel’s unrivalled track record of forecast accuracy, which includes topping the annual ranking of forecasters for the U.K. economy compiled by The Sunday Times in 2014 and 2018, as well as coming joint-top in 2019.
He also topped Refinitiv’s ranking in 2017.

Among Andres’s 2020 forecast highlights:
- 2020 – Predicted in mid-Q1 that the Covid shock would require further monetary and fiscal stimulus as the pandemic was an unquantifiable risk. Was one of the first economists to forecast a contraction in LatAm real GDP in Q2. In mid-Q2, warned that the risk of a second Covid wave was real, and that the recovery was going to be sluggish, particularly in Mexico, where the fiscal response was very limited.
