Robert Wood

Chief UK Economist

Robert Wood has more than two decades of experience covering the UK economy at the central bank and for investors. He joined Pantheon in January 2024 after nine years as Chief UK Economist at Bank of America, three years as Chief UK Economist at Berenberg and twelve years in a variety of monetary policy roles at the Bank of England, including working with the MPC on producing Inflation forecasts through the financial crisis. He holds Master's and Bachelor's degrees in economics from the University of Warwick.

Robert’s research is practical, focusing on straight forward ways to translate the data and an understanding of the key economic trends into a comprehensive outlook for monetary policy.

He is known for his strong non-consensus calls, and topped the annual ranking of forecasters for the UK economy compiled by the Sunday Times in 2020. Robert’s particular areas of expertise are the housing market, the consumer, inflation and monetary policy. He is extensively quoted in the press and has presented at a wide range of conferences, most recently the Bank of England Watcher’s Conference in late 2023.
