  • Warm weather supported June’s 0.7% month-to-month rise in retail sales, but the underlying trend is positive too.
  • July’s fall in consumers’ confidence was linked to the rise in mortgage rates, which now is going into reverse.
  • Real incomes will rise in Q3 and Q4, as prices increase less quickly than wages; saving will rise gently, not soar.
